Win Aberlour 18 Year Old Double Sherry Cask – Batch 5
99p each | Max 10 per person
One of Speyside’s great sherry bombs, in its most sought-after form — and this is the brand new Batch 5. Yours for 99p a go.
Aberlour has sherry in its blood. This is the distillery behind A’bunadh, the cult cask-strength monster — and the 18 is its older, wiser, more polished sibling. Founded in 1879 by James Fleming, a farmer’s son turned philanthropist who paid for the village’s bridge, school and hospital, Aberlour has always carried the motto “Let the deed shaw” — let the deed show. Eighteen years in the making, this one shows plenty.
For years the 18 was a French-market secret, barely seen on UK shelves. It’s since been reborn as a small-batch Double Sherry Cask Finish, and Batch 5 is the freshest release yet. Matured in American oak, then fully finished in a double hit of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 43% ABV. The nose is deep and moreish: rum-soaked raisins, black cherries, orange peel, dark chocolate and toffee. The palate is velvety and rich — dried figs, butterscotch, candied orange and a warming lick of ginger spice. It finishes long and warm, all sherry sweetness, plum pudding and mellow oak. A proper after-dinner Speysider.
An 18-year-old sherried Speyside for 99p? Go on.
