As the forecast turns to snow, we thought we’d respond. If you like your whisky peaty, sherried and cask-strength, this one hits the bullseye.
This 2018 Meikle Tòir single cask (#11564) was matured start-to-finish in a Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead, and it shows — thick waves of dark chocolate, dried fruit and warming spice wrapped tightly around that earthy mainland peat from St Fergus that the range is now famous for.
Bottled at a massive 60.1% ABV, this is Meikle Tòir at full volume — rich, smoky, sweet and unapologetically intense.
Tasting notes:

Nose: Crystallised ginger, raisin butter, mocha, heather honey, spiced orange, plum jam, smoked hazelnuts

Palate: Smoked almonds, honeycomb, fig syrup, brandied orchard fruits, treacle tart, spiced orange and plum jam
Single cask. Cask strength. PX sherry. Peat.
If that combination doesn’t sell itself, nothing will.
At £2.99 a ticket, this is a proper heavy-hitter for anyone who loves their whisky dark, smoky and full of flavour.
