Springbank is the cult distillery. The oldest working distillery in Campbeltown, family-owned, still doing everything the slow way under one roof. Their 12 Year Old Cask Strength drops in small batches just twice a year and sells out on sight every single time – this is the one collectors set alarms for.
Batch 29 is 100% bourbon cask-matured and bottled at a hefty 56.1% ABV. Twice-distilled, lightly peated, natural colour, non-chill filtered – exactly as it should be. The nose is all coastal Springbank character: earthy and mineral with sea salt, dried banana, granola and lemon zest over a wisp of smoke. The palate opens up into grapefruit syrup, orange pith and pomelo with a soft white marshmallow sweetness. The finish brings cocoa powder, glazed cherries and salted pretzels, with that signature thread of peat smoke right at the end.
A genuine modern classic, fresh off the line. 99 tickets. Those are remarkable odds on a bottle this hard to get hold of.
