The Thompson Brothers don’t really need an introduction. Phil and Simon’s bottlings out of Dornoch have become some of the most chased-after indie releases in Scotland – and Mystery Malt is their cleverest idea yet.
Here’s how it works: an opaque black bottle. No label. No distillery. No age statement. Just a QR code and a hidden label tucked under the capsule, revealed only when you crack the seal. Series 6 is their biggest swing so far – drawn from 38 different parcels of whisky, pulled from 30 distilleries across all five official regions of Scotland, with ages ranging from 6 to 29 years old.
It could be a vibrant young single cask you’ve never seen bottled alone. It could be a 29-year-old stately old monster. It could be coastal peat. It could be sherry. It could be ruby Port. You won’t know until you twist the capsule off.
That’s the whole point.

What You’re Getting Into
Every Mystery Malt is hand-picked by the Thompsons themselves. These aren’t filler casks – this is a team known for putting their name on serious whisky, and they’ve made the brave call to bottle it all under the same anonymous label and let the liquid do the talking. Refill hogsheads, first-fill bourbon, PX butts, sherry wood, wine barriques, ruby Port finishes – the lot.
Whatever’s behind the black glass, it was picked by people whose reputation doesn’t bend for an average dram.

Only entrants who submit the correct answer will be entered into the prize draw. Entrants who answer incorrectly will not be entered but will still be charged.
