This one’s a gem for anyone who’s been watching the rise of English whisky. Distilled in 2018 and drawn from first-fill bourbon cask #2018–16 — the sixteenth cask EVER filled at White Peak — this is proper “early doors” distillery history. Bottled by Thompson Bros. at 57.1% ABV, natural colour and unfiltered.
And the flavour profile? Wildly characterful for a 7-year-old:
Nose: green pepper, lime zest, coastal smoke and mezcal brightness, opening to grapefruit, lemon curd, smoked almonds and peanut brittle.
Palate: salty, mineral peat with iodine and hessian, shifting to citrus, smoked ham, cockles and seashells.
Finish: dry, coastal, grist-y, with lemon zest and a prickle of ginger spice.
Exactly the kind of bottle that proves why White Peak has gone from “new name” to “must-watch” in record time.
