all of your questions answered

Everyone has questions, here are all the answers

We understand, it’s always a worry when you use a new website – what happens in this situation, what happens in that situation. We’re done our best to collate all of the questions we’re usually asked and add them here. If you have any others then please contact us and we’ll get straight back to you.

Unlike other providers, Whisky Giveaway has been created with a singular focus on being the most trusted Whisky Giveaway site. This means we sacrifice profits to ensure you can feel totally comfortable entering our competitions. Examples include:

Limited Company Status – We are not a “fly by night” organisation. We are registered with Companies House (12874984)  which gives you recourse should you have any issues. Unlike sole traders etc, we cant simply disappear.

We don’t draw the tickets – The most common concern for prize competition sites is “I bet they just make sure their friends win”. Whilst this is the last thing we would do, after all our integrity is what helps us build an audience, we go a step further by using a third party draw provider. www.random.org is a clever site run by some clever guys from Trinity College in Dublin. They use air particles to create truly random events and their system is used to draw our winners on our behalf.

We’re transparent – The second biggest concern is whether a ticket was included in the draw. Random.org’s solution’s get’s around this by allowing users to confirm that they were included in the draw. We supply a link to the competition results on our site and you can check them in a GDPR compliant way to ensure all of your tickets were included.

We’re upfront – We perform every draw on Facebook Live so you can tune in to the results and hear straight from the horses (aka Rob Allen) mouth whether you’ve been successful. You can ask questions during the draw, make suggestions and also contact us through our different channels.

We’re setup correctly – Take it from us, setting up a Prize Competition site properly is a unenviable task. It’s not a simple job of buying some whisky, throwing together a site and integrating PayPal – this is illegal. We spent months finding the best payment gateway providers, going through underwriting with banks, proving our business models, cash forecasts, etc – we even use geo-restriction software to ensure that business is only transacted in the UK. You can take faith that everything is set up correctly.

We keep the stock with reputable providers – Again, we want you to feel comfortable that everything is performed correctly and that the stock is real, genuine and in great condition. To achieve this, we get our prizes from some of the best providers in the country. For our first round of prizes, our Springbank 25, Laphroaig 25 and Glendronnach 22 are happily sitting at Luvians Bottle Shop in St. Andrews, ready to dispatch directly to the winner.

Prizes Guaranteed – Even though Whisky Giveaway has the option of credit terms with suppliers, it chooses not to use them. All whisky is purchased ahead of time and therefore the prize you see is the prize you get.

All of our competitions prizes are fully funded and that include delivery to your door. There is nothing else to pay.

Whisky Giveaway is a UK site and all users must be based in the UK, use a UK-based payment card and receive their prizes at a UK address. To prevent non-UK users from accessing the site, we restrict IP addresses from other countries and restricts non-UK payment cards. If you do manage to enter from another country, your entry will be deemed invalid and rejected. Importantly, your fee will not be refunded.

This may seem unfair but our business was set up to comply both with UK gaming laws and the sale of alcohol. Other countries have differing laws and we’re not positioned to manage the wide range of options.

Whisky Giveaway abides by UK licensing laws. Therefore, you must be over 18 in order to take part in any of our competitions.

Whisky Giveaway runs prize competitions, not raffles or lotteries. As such, you have to show a level of skill in order to take part. The UK Gambling Commission is very clear that prize competitions must depend on the exercise of skill, knowledge, or judgment by the participant.

Furthermore, The Gambling Act section 14 (5) specifies that the element of skill, knowledge, or judgement must prevent a significant number of people taking part – so no easy questions  I’m afraid.

Please be aware – if you enter and get the answer wrong, you will be charged but your entry will not be included.

Yes, Whisky Giveaway gives 10% of its annual profits to charity and also runs regular charity competitions throughout the year.

On the home page of our website or on each individual competition, you will see a box which says “Enter now”. Click that and you will be taken to the entry form.

Stage 1 is to answer the competition question by selecting your answer in the box.

Stage 2 is to select the number of entries you require. Please remember that these are entries, not attempts to answer the competition question correctly. If your answer is wrong, you will not be able to try again unless you purchase more entries. You will see the question before you choose to enter but you cannot find out if you are right or wrong.

Stage 3 is to complete your details on the entry form and pay the entry fee. You will need to tick the box to confirm that you accept our terms and conditions. You can read them by clicking here.

If you have answered the question correctly, your username will be entered in the draw with all of the other correct entries. If you have not answered correctly, you will not be entered into the draw.

You will also receive an email confirming if you have been entered into the draw.

[There is also a free entry route available. To enter for free, send your name, address, telephone number, email address and answer to the competition question to us at the following address:

71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ

Entries must be submitted via first class post. Bulk entries are not accepted and if received will count as one single entry. If you wish to enter for free multiple times you may do so up to any limit placed on the number of entries. Each free entry must be submitted separately.]

Whisky Giveaway uses the Third Party Draw Service from random.org to ensure that draws are independent and performed accurately.  We contact all winners soon after the draw to give them the happy news and to organise delivery. Therefore, it essential that you ensure your contact detail are accurate.

Generally, you are restricted to 10 tickets per draw. This allows you to maximise your chances whilst ensuring everyone gets a chance.

From time to time, this may be adjusted, for example with very high ticket numbers. In this case, the competition will give you the extra detail.

There are many ways to reach out, whether you have some further questions, want to talk whisky or simply want to say “Hi”. Try our Contact page, reach out through Facebook or simply email us at info@whiskygiveaway.co.uk

The simple answer is…you! Our continued success is based on getting whisky prizes that people want to win. Therefore, we regularly run questionnaires and get into whisky discussions with our customers to find out what people really want.

We also have a Future Competitions page that allows our customers stay up to date on the prizes we’re planning on bringing in. If you sign up to the form for the whiskies you want, we’ll email you to let you know when they’re in.

Unlike some other competition sites, we work on a single prize per ticket.

We draw 1st prize first, then that ticket number is removed. Then 2nd, and so on.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t enter the competition more than once and many competitors buy at least one ticket per prize in the hope they can win everything!

To ensure that everyone has a chance of winning the first prize, we draw it first and then 2nd, 3rd, in order, if there are subsequent prizes. This process is done instantaneously by Random.org.

Do build suspense during the live shows however, we will read the winners out in reverse order so the first prize will be the last announced.

We will notify the winner via telephone or email within [7] days of the closing date of the competition. If you change any of your contact details prior to the closing date, you must inform us. We will try to contact you using the information you have supplied us with. If we cannot reach you within [14] days of the closing date we reserve the right to choose another winner and you will lose your right to claim the prize.

The opening and closing date of the competitions are stated on the website. If we have to change either of these dates for any reason, we will update the website accordingly. We will only change the dates if we have to for reasons outside of our control.

The competitions are open to UK residents who are 18 years or older.

We do not accept entries from anyone outside of these areas as the laws for running competitions vary. This competition has been organised to comply with UK law.

Also, you cannot enter this competition if you are a relative of any of our suppliers.

The prizes are described fully on the website. You can find out more details by reviewing each competition page.

We reserve the right to offer an alternative prize of an equal or higher value if the prize is unavailable for any reason.

If you are the winner, the prize will be yours. You can do whatever you wish with it, including selling it.

We need to use your data to administer the competition and award prizes. We do not use your data for any other purpose.

We do not share your data with any third parties unless this is necessary for administering the competition.

Full details of how we use your data are included in our Privacy Policy which you can read here.

If you are the winner, we may have to share your details with the Advertising Standards Authority to confirm that we have administered the competition and awarded the prizes fairly.

You have the right to opt-out from us using your data at any time. However, if you do ask us to remove your details from our database prior to the closing date, you will be withdrawing from the competition. You will not be entitled to a refund of any entry fees you have paid.

No, this is not compulsory. However, with your permission, we would love to share your excitement on our website and social media pages.

Even if you do not want to participate in any promotional exercises, we may have to provide your details to the Advertising Standards Authority to prove we have administered the competition and awarded the prize fairly.

Whilst this may be disappointing, you have to remember that this is a competition and we have deliberately made the question tough to comply with the law.

If you get the question wrong, you will not be entered into the draw so you will not have the chance to win the prize. You will not be entitled to a refund of your entry fees. If you want to, you can try again.

You can enter the competition as many times as you wish up to the maximum number specified within each competition. Your entries may be restricted if we reach the maximum number of entries.

Whilst this isn’t gambling, we still urge you to keep this fun and not spend more than you can afford.

The maximum number of entries is stated on each competition so your chances of winning will vary from competition to competition. As an example, if entries are capped at a maximum of 300, this means that if you purchase 1 entry and get the answer correct, your chances of winning will be no worse than 1 in 300.

You can increase your chances of winning by purchasing more entries. For example, if you purchase 10 entries in the example above and you get the answer correct, your chances of winning will be no worse than 1 in 30.

We say “no worse than” because we expect a significant number of people to get the answer to the question wrong. We cannot predict how many this will be but say 50 people got the answer wrong and they each purchased 1 entry each. Your chances of winning with a single correct entry will now improve to 1 in 250.

This example is based on a single prize, multiple prizes increase the chance of being successful.

This is not a lottery or a free prize draw. It is a prize competition and the law says that to be in with a chance of winning, you must demonstrate your skill, knowledge or judgement.

The law says that the question should be sufficiently difficult that a significant number of people either get the answer wrong or are put off entering. However, this means that the odds of winning are actually increased for those who get the answer correct.

If you have any questions that have not been answered here, please email us at info@whiskygiveaway.co.uk and we will happily answer them for you.
